Keen-edge bamboo barbecue skewer (KEBABS): development of skewer machine

Abstract

The methods of creating bamboo barbecue skewers present considerable challenges and market competitiveness. The traditional process of handcrafting bamboo barbecue skewers presents challenges in quality and production scalability. Machinery exists, but the financial burden might deter small vendors. The study presents a prototype design that will process raw bamboo into barbecue skewers. Developing phases such as slicing, shaping, polishing, and sharpening will process raw bamboo into bamboo barbecue skewers. Results show that desired bamboo barbecue skewers are produced along with deformed sticks, which will be classified if they are still usable. The study concludes that the prototype can perform crucial parts of producing bamboo barbecue skewers.
