Abstract
This study presents the design and development of an automated maize sheller powered by an alternating current (AC) motor to enhance the efficiency of maize kernel removal. The machine features a rotating shaft with attached chains housed in a cylindrical casing from a repurposed propane gas tank. It is designed to process 3 to 5 ears of maize, with a maximum weight of 800 grams and length of 8 inches, within 30 seconds to 1 minute. A built-in display indicates operational status, while a protective cover ensures operator safety. The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in modernizing agricultural infrastructure and promoting resource efficiency. Testing confirmed the sheller's capacity to process up to 10 cobs while maintaining optimal performance. Automation integration reduces manual labor, increases productivity, and enhances operational safety. This innovation significantly contributes to sustainable agricultural practices, improving efficiency, reducing waste, and supporting economic growth. The automated maize sheller represents a step toward modernizing agrarian technology, providing a reliable and efficient solution for small and large-scale farming operations.
